Sam from the wonderful blog, day•dream, has been kind enough to nominate me for the Tell Me About Yourself Award. I was unable to find the original source of this award online (hence my lack of a link), so I’m going to bend the rules a little bit to turn revealing “seven things about myself” into “seven pictures that reveal something about me.” Here goes:
I recently read severalarticlesdiscussing the prevalence of Mormonwomen in the lifestyle blogosphere. While I know very little about the LDS Church, and find generalizations to be pretty much useless in any context, I have definitely noted howmanyof the lifestyleblogs I love are written by Mormons – and, additionally, that my growing familiarity with these individuals through their writing, art, and photo curation has dismantled many of my ignorant assumptions about their religion.
The heat wave has finally reached California, and it’s so hot that I’m not even thinking about refreshing drinks any more – I’m just trying to stay as still as possible until it passes. One thing that helps is piling my curly mop of hair on top of my head until nary a strand touches my neck, and then turning my back towards a fan. Heavenly.
I know I’ve been talking about it for awhile, but tomorrow I really am going to have some people over for my birthday. Birthdays have always been important to me, involving a few weeks lead-up as well as another week of follow-up after the fact. It’s more like a birthMONTH, actually, and there are several requirements. Here are the five most important ones, in no particular order:
1. A big dinner.
2. A cake – or pie – with candles.
3. A commemorative gathering.
4. The ‘happy birthday’ song.
5. Presents (a six-pack of beer brought to the gathering will suffice).
Of late, I have also been really into creating signature cocktails for my birthday events, even if they only involve a handful of people. Tomorrow I will be serving vodka spritzers with mint from the garden, cucumber, and lime. It’s been so hot lately, I figured I would just take every summery, cooling thing I could think of and put them all in one drink. It will probably (hopefully) look something like this:
