Sam from the wonderful blog, day•dream, has been kind enough to nominate me for the Tell Me About Yourself Award. I was unable to find the original source of this award online (hence my lack of a link), so I’m going to bend the rules a little bit to turn revealing “seven things about myself” into “seven pictures that reveal something about me.” Here goes:
Since starting this blog a few months ago, I have been so lucky to have a bevy of very talented interior designers and design experts among my followers: Natalie, Patricia, and fara beth, you know who you are! And now that it looks like we’re moving into a new place next month, I’m probably going to be posting way more on interior design than anything else as I try to create a new home.
Though the place we’re looking to rent is lovely, it has beige carpet in both bedrooms (one will be an office). I’ve already started thinking of ways we might liven it up, and one method I discovered in my online searching was the use of area rugs over carpet. Though I’ve found a blog post here and there on the subject, I have only found a handful of photos that really inspire me. So, talented interior designer friends, what do you think about putting rugs over carpet? Any thoughts or tips?
Each year, my wonderful boyfriend (now fiancé) gives me the gift of light for my birthday. The yard looks truly magical. Plus, this year’s ensemble included something I’ve dreamed about for a while now: cafe lights!
I know I’ve been talking about it for awhile, but tomorrow I really am going to have some people over for my birthday. Birthdays have always been important to me, involving a few weeks lead-up as well as another week of follow-up after the fact. It’s more like a birthMONTH, actually, and there are several requirements. Here are the five most important ones, in no particular order:
1. A big dinner.
2. A cake – or pie – with candles.
3. A commemorative gathering.
4. The ‘happy birthday’ song.
5. Presents (a six-pack of beer brought to the gathering will suffice).
Of late, I have also been really into creating signature cocktails for my birthday events, even if they only involve a handful of people. Tomorrow I will be serving vodka spritzers with mint from the garden, cucumber, and lime. It’s been so hot lately, I figured I would just take every summery, cooling thing I could think of and put them all in one drink. It will probably (hopefully) look something like this:
Pretty soon I’m going to have clay pots (of varying quality!) on every available surface in my little house. I just can’t stop throwing them. I may need to start an Etsy shop out of necessity rather than talent…
When I start getting a bit better at the whole ceramics thing, I’d love to create a little bedside tableau like this:
